Red icons of our nature
Organised crime plunges in the destruction of the icons of our nature. Tigers, elephants and rhinos are being slaughtered on an unprecedented scale. WWF binds with the NCRV the battle.
Poaching and illegal trade are engaged in rapidly eradicating various species, including elephants, tigers and rhinos. The figures are staggering. The number of rhinos poached in South Africa exploded from 13 in 2007 to 448 in 2011. After the first half of this year hit over 262. The last decade, at least a thousand wild tigers slain by poachers. The last 3200 animals are brighter than ever hunted and harassed. Every year tens of thousands of elephants slaughtered for their ivory, especially in Central Africa. In Cameroon, heavily armed poachers struck early this year in the reserve Bouba N'Djida. In a few weeks time they killed as 80 percent of the elephant population.
